Play Platoon Online
A tense NES adaptation of the Vietnam War film—switch between soldiers, survive jungle traps, crawl through tunnels, and face off against Barnes. Janky but intense.

Platoon came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988, developed by Ocean Software. It was one of many movie tie-ins from that era, attempting to bring a serious war film to a console better known for platformers and fantasy adventures. The game stood out for its subject matter, even if the hardware struggled to fully capture the grim atmosphere of the source material.
You control a squad of U.S. soldiers, switching between a rifleman, a grenadier, and a machine gunner to navigate the hostile Vietnamese jungle. Your main objective is to survive each stage, which involves clearing the area of enemy soldiers and avoiding booby traps like punji pits. The game uses a screen by screen progression, forcing you to methodically eliminate threats before advancing. The pacing is deliberate and the difficulty is punishing; enemy fire comes quickly, and the limited continues mean mistakes are costly. It feels like a constant, stressful fight for every inch of ground.
