Game Overview

Plundered Hearts is one of those old-school text adventures where you play as a proper English lady in the 1600s—until pirates ruin your plans, anyway. You start off just trying to reach your sick father in the West Indies, but then your ship gets boarded, and suddenly you're stuck negotiating with (or maybe falling for?) the pirate captain who kidnapped you. The writing’s surprisingly witty, and there’s this weird charm in typing things like "flirt with captain" or "steal cutlass" while trying not to get marooned. Definitely more romance than swashbuckling, though—don’t expect a straight-up action game.

It’s got that classic parser frustration where you’ll occasionally guess the wrong verb and get "I don’t understand that," but the story’s engaging enough to push through. Also, the Amiga version has these lovely little illustrations that pop up now and then, which was a nice touch back in the day. If you’re into vintage interactive fiction with a side of slow-burn drama, this one’s a hidden gem.
