Game Overview

I first played The Queen of Hearts Maze Game as part of the MS-DOS Classic Games collection, though I never found out who originally made it. It was one of those simple, straightforward titles from the early DOS era, built around a single clear idea rather than a sprawling adventure. You don't get a manual or much backstory; you're just dropped into a maze with one job.

You control a small character, likely a playing card or a servant, tasked with navigating a labyrinth while avoiding the Queen and her card guards. The maze is viewed from above, screen by screen, and your goal is to find the exit before the Queen catches you. The guards patrol set routes, but the Queen actively hunts you down, and her shouts of "Off with their head!" get louder the closer she is. Wrong turns often lead to dead ends or sudden encounters, making every move tense. The pacing is frantic, and the difficulty comes from memorizing the maze layout under pressure. It feels like a desperate, heart-pounding race against an enemy you can't fight, only flee.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
