Fantasy Zone - The Maze is a weird little spin-off from Sega’s usual shoot-em-up series. Instead of flying around blasting things, you’re stuck in these mazes, gobbling up dots like some kind of pastel-colored Pac-Man. The big dots feel satisfying to grab—they’re worth way more points—but you’ve gotta be quick. Take too long, and the game just shrugs and gives you nothing for your effort.
The enemies are annoying in that classic arcade way, always cutting you off at the worst moment. But if you touch the flashing red spot in each maze, you can stop stronger ones from spawning. There’s something oddly tense about scrambling to collect all the dots before the timer runs out, then watching everything turn into coins you’ve gotta scoop up in a panic.
Power-ups are hidden in circles, but half the time you don’t have enough cash to buy them, so you just get this sad "NO SELLING" message hovering there. And yeah, you can play with two people, but it’s the same frantic mess—just with twice the yelling when someone accidentally flies into an enemy.
It’s not the best Fantasy Zone game, but there’s something charming about how weirdly different it is.
