Pokemon Dash came out for the Nintendo DS in 2004, developed by Ambrella. It was one of those early DS titles that really tried to make use of the touchscreen in a simple, direct way, back when the hardware still felt new and experimental. You don't see many games that focus entirely on racing as Pikachu, but it definitely had a specific charm for its time.
You control Pikachu by scribbling rapidly on the lower screen with the stylus to make him run; the faster you rub, the faster he goes. The main goal is to finish each course before the other Pokémon racers, navigating through checkpoints that change your direction. You can also pop balloons scattered around the track to get temporary speed boosts or use special items. The pacing is frantic, almost panicked at times, because if you slow your strokes, you slow down drastically. It feels like a race against your own hand cramping up as much as against the CPU opponents.
