The Hoenn region feels alive in a way that's hard to explain—maybe it's the way the rain pours down in Route 119, or how the trumpets kick in during gym battles. You start with your usual choice of starter, but the world opens up fast, and before you know it, you're diving underwater or scrambling up ash-covered mountains.

I remember getting stuck for hours trying to figure out how to reach Fortree City, only to realize I missed some hidden path in the tall grass. The game doesn't hold your hand, which makes exploration actually rewarding. The rival battles feel personal, and the gym leaders? Some of them will wreck you if you're not prepared.

Pokemon Rubis (F) has that classic GBA charm, but with enough depth to keep you coming back. It's not perfect—some HM requirements are annoying—but it's still one of the better ways to experience Hoenn.
