This Game Boy Color version of the Pokémon Trading Card Game takes all that nostalgia and packs it into a surprisingly deep strategy game. You start with a basic deck—mostly Rattatas and Pidgeys—but soon you're hunting down booster packs, trading with NPCs, and carefully building combos that'd make your 10-year-old self lose their mind.
The pixel art somehow makes holographic cards look even cooler, and the AI opponents actually put up a fight (looking at you, Imakuni and your weird Psyduck deck). What I love is how it captures that feeling of opening a fresh pack—except here, you don't have to worry about your little brother bending your holographic Hitmonchan.
It's got that classic Game Boy charm with chiptune versions of the card game's theme music, and collecting all eight medals feels just as satisfying as beating the Elite Four. Just don't blame me when you start muttering "energy card management" in your sleep.
