Polo came out for the Atari 2600 in 1980, designed by Carol Shaw and published by Atari. It was one of those early sports adaptations that tried to translate a real-world game into something playable on the console, back when developers were still figuring out what worked on that hardware. You don't hear much about it compared to some of the bigger titles from that year, but it had its place.

You control a player on horseback, moving up and down your side of the field. The main goal is to hit the ball into your opponent's goal while defending your own. The mallet swings automatically, so positioning and timing are everything; you focus on getting into the right place to make contact. The ball bounces off the walls, and you can choose different rule sets that change how it behaves, like whether it wraps around the screen or ricochets. It's a fast, simple game that gets pretty competitive with two players. Trying to outmaneuver a friend and sneak one past them feels satisfying, even with all the basic graphics.
