I picked up Pop'n Pop for the Game Boy Color back in 1999, a Taito release that fit right in with the era's love for simple, portable puzzle games. It wasn't trying to be the next big adventure; it was just a colorful, cheerful little title you could play in short bursts between classes or on the bus.

You control a small character at the bottom of the screen, shooting bubbles upward to match three or more of the same color. The goal is to clear each screen before the descending bubble stack reaches the top. Key mechanics include bouncing shots off walls for tricky angles, and using special items that appear to clear large sections at once. The pace starts relaxed but quickly becomes frantic as the bubbles pile up. It feels satisfying when a well-placed shot sets off a long chain reaction and saves you from near defeat.
