Power Lode Runner (Japan) (NP) came out for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1999, developed by Banpresto. It arrived late in the SNES lifecycle, a time when many players had already moved on to newer consoles, but it offered a polished and challenging take on a familiar formula.
You control a small character who must collect all the gold on each screen while avoiding enemy robots. Your main tool is the ability to dig holes in the ground, which you use to temporarily trap pursuing enemies or create paths to otherwise unreachable items. The pacing is methodical at first, but the difficulty ramps up significantly as levels introduce more complex enemy patterns and precarious platforming. It feels tense and rewarding to outsmart a room full of robots with careful planning and quick execution.
