Play PowerMonger Online
PowerMonger’s pixel people will betray you for a loaf of bread—try not to take it personally as you bribe, starve, or outmaneuver rival warlords on hills that actually matter. That "friendly ruler" act? Yeah, that lasts about five minutes.

PowerMonger came out in 1990 for MS-DOS, developed by Bullfrog Productions. It was one of those games that felt ambitious for its time, a real-time strategy title that tried to capture the messy, human side of conquest. You weren't just moving units; you were managing the fickle loyalties of an entire population across a sprawling, living map.
You control a warlord trying to unite a fractured land by conquering territory screen by screen. Your main objective is to defeat all rival leaders, but your own people will desert if they go hungry or see a better offer. Key mechanics include bribing enemy soldiers to switch sides, managing food supplies to keep villages productive, and using terrain like hills for tactical advantage in battles. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, and the difficulty comes from balancing aggression with the constant threat of rebellion from within. It feels less like commanding an army and more like trying to keep a very unstable, very armed community from falling apart at the seams.
Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
