Game Overview

Ranma 1-2 for the Super Nintendo came out in 1993, developed by Atelier Double. It was one of many licensed games from that era, trying to capture the spirit of a popular anime on a console known for action platformers. The game doesn't try to reinvent the wheel; it's straightforward, colorful, and very much a product of its time.

You control Ranma Saotome, switching between his male and female forms by touching water. The goal is to rescue Akane from a rival martial artist, moving through side scrolling stages filled with enemy fighters. You punch and kick your way through crowds, occasionally using special moves or throwing opponents into the background. The levels are short but packed with obstacles, and the difficulty can spike unexpectedly. It feels exactly like playing through a goofy, fast paced episode of the show.
