Game Overview

Razor Freestyle Scooter came out for the Game Boy Color in 2001, developed by Magic Pockets. It was part of that wave of extreme sports games that followed Tony Hawk's success, but it had its own low-key charm on the handheld. You don't see many scooter games, even now; it was a neat little oddity for its time.

You control a scooter rider in small, self-contained levels, trying to chain tricks together for high scores. The main goal is to complete objectives, like collecting letters or hitting specific scores, before time runs out. You perform ollies, grinds, and grabs by combining button presses; landing tricks fills your special meter, which lets you pull off bigger moves. The levels are compact but filled with ramps, rails, and obstacles to use. It can be pretty unforgiving if you miss a landing, but when you nail a combo, it feels quick and responsive. Pulling off a long grind into a backflip just feels good.
