Play Reactor Online
Navigate a small ship in a nuclear reactor, bump energy particles into control rods, and prevent a meltdown as the walls close in on you.
Reactor came out for the Atari 2600 in 1982, published by Parker Brothers. It was one of those games that felt a little different from the usual shooters or maze chases of the era, something built around a clear, tense idea rather than just reflexes.
You control a small ship inside a nuclear reactor, and your job is to keep it from melting down. You do this by bumping bouncing energy particles into control rods around the edge of the screen; each time you trap one, it turns into a harmless block of ice. The reactor walls gradually close in, making it harder to maneuver, and if too many particles are left bouncing when the walls meet, it's game over. The pace is relentless, and the difficulty ramps up quickly. It feels like trying to contain chaos before it swallows you whole.
