Rengoku II: The Stairway to H.E.A.V.E.N. came out for the PlayStation Portable in 2006, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of early PSP titles that experimented with dungeon crawling and action RPG mechanics, offering a distinctly mechanical and isolated atmosphere compared to many of its contemporaries.

You control an android named A.D.A.M., ascending a massive tower by clearing room after room of hostile machines. Your main goal is to reach the top, fighting through waves of enemies while constantly upgrading your body with parts collected from fallen foes. The combat relies on equipping different weapons to your arms, shoulders, and back, allowing for combinations like swords, guns, and shields. Exploration is methodical, almost room-by-room, and the difficulty can feel punishing if you don’t manage your upgrades carefully. It feels like piecing together a lethal puzzle with every new part you attach.
