You start off as Claire Redfield sneaking through this abandoned prison island, and within minutes you're fumbling with the tank controls while some pale, twitchy zombie lurches at you. The fixed camera angles make every corner tense—you never quite know what's waiting just off-screen.
The puzzles actually make you think (none of that "find the emblem key" filler), and the voice acting... well, it's classic Resident Evil cheese. But that's part of the charm. Disc 1 sets up this gothic nightmare with secret labs, mutant bosses, and enough ammo scarcity to make every shot count. Just wait until you meet the guy with the sunglasses and the ridiculous coat—you'll know him when you see him.
It's aged in places, but the atmosphere? Still unmatched.
