Road Riot 4WD came out for the Super Nintendo in 1992, developed by Atari Games. It was part of that wave of arcade style racers that tried to bring a little bit of that coin-op feel home, back when the SNES was really hitting its stride with action games.
You control an off-road buggy, racing against other aggressive drivers across rough terrain. The main goal is to finish each race in first place while dealing with opponents who will actively ram and spin you out. Signature mechanics include using a turbo boost for short bursts of speed, and collecting power-ups like oil slicks and repair wrenches scattered on the track. The game moves fast and the AI drivers are relentless, making it a challenging pick-up-and-play experience. It feels chaotic and immediate, like you're barely keeping control at high speed.
