Rocketeer on the NES came out in 1991, published by Bandai. It was one of many licensed games from that era, based on the movie of the same name, and it fit right in with the platform's mix of ambitious but sometimes clunky action titles.
You control Cliff Secord, a pilot who finds a rocket pack, and your goal is to stop villains from stealing the technology. The game is a side-scroller where you fly and shoot through levels, fighting enemies and avoiding obstacles. Signature mechanics include managing your limited jetpack fuel, which forces you to land and refuel at certain points, and navigating tight spaces that demand precise movement. The pacing is uneven, with some sections feeling rushed and others frustratingly slow due to the awkward controls. It feels like wrestling with a stubborn machine that only occasionally does what you want.
