Rockin' Kats came out on the NES in 1991, published by Atlus. It was one of those later NES games that tried to push the hardware a bit further with more detailed sprites and a faster pace, but it still felt right at home on the console. You play as Willy, a cat whose girlfriend has been kidnapped, and you set out through a city full of animal gangsters to get her back.

You control Willy through side-scrolling levels, using a spring-loaded punch gun that lets you attack enemies and also grapple onto ceilings or walls to swing across gaps. The main goal is to clear each stage, defeat the boss, and move on to the next area, which often involves navigating platforming challenges and finding keys to unlock doors. The pacing is quick, and the difficulty can spike in some spots, especially with the precision needed for swinging. It feels energetic and a little chaotic, like a Saturday morning cartoon where you're constantly in motion.
