Rockman X3 on GBC is one of those rare Game Boy Color ports that actually gets it right. Yeah, it’s scaled down from the SNES version, but somehow it still feels like Mega Man X—just crammed into your pocket. The controls are snappy, the music somehow bangs even in 8-bit, and those Maverick fights? Still brutal in the best way.
You start off with the usual dash-and-shoot chaos, picking your first boss stage (I always go for Blizzard Buffalo first—his weapon makes the next few fights way easier). The levels are shorter, sure, but they’re packed with little secrets if you bother to explore. Found a hidden armor upgrade tucked behind a fake wall on my third run and felt like a genius.
Honestly, the only real downside is the screen crunch—sometimes you’ll jump straight into an enemy you couldn’t see coming. But if you’ve got nostalgia for X3 or just want a solid action game to kill time, this one holds up way better than it has any right to. Sigma’s final form is still a nightmare, by the way.
