Romancing SaGa 3 came out on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995, developed and published by Square. It was part of that late SNES wave of RPGs that really pushed the hardware, offering a huge world and a ton of freedom compared to a lot of its contemporaries.

Your goal is to gather allies and confront the Fatestone and the Asura, threats looming over the world. The game uses a free-form scenario system; you explore towns and dungeons screen by screen, triggering events that weave the larger narrative together. Combat is turn-based, with skills and weapon proficiencies that improve through use, not by leveling up. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is notable; some routes and bosses demand careful preparation.
