Rygar (Rev A) came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Tecmo. You control a warrior armed with a unique weapon called the Diskarmor, which is a shield with a spiked disc on a chain. Your goal is to defeat the evil Ligar and restore peace to the land. You explore the world screen by screen, fighting monsters, climbing vines, and searching for items that increase your power, like the grappling hook or the wind pulley. The pacing is deliberate; you often backtrack to use new abilities in areas you couldn't access before. The difficulty is significant, with some enemies and platforming sections that demand precise timing. It feels like a slow, methodical conquest of a hostile and mysterious world.
