Okay, so Rygar on NES isn't what you'd expect if you played the arcade version. Same basic idea—undead warrior, evil to slay—but this one's way more about exploring Argool than just plowing through levels. At first I thought it was just another side-scroller, but then I realized you actually backtrack with new gear to unlock hidden spots, which was pretty cool for an NES game.
The combat's simple but satisfying, especially as you find permanent upgrades (no temporary power-ups here). What really got me was how it switches perspectives—side-scrolling for action bits, then this weird overhead map when traveling between areas where you can still get jumped by enemies. Took me a minute to adjust, but it keeps things from feeling repetitive.
