Play Sanrio Shanghai Online
Slide pastel Hello Kitty tiles together while Sanrio’s pixel art stares back at you—it’s mahjong, but way cuter and way more distracting.

Sanrio Shanghai came out on the Super Nintendo in 1994, developed by Character Soft. It was a time when the SNES library was full of quirky Japanese titles that never made it to other regions, and this puzzle game fits right into that niche category. You don't see many mahjong solitaire games starring Hello Kitty and friends.
You control a cursor to select and match pairs of tiles, clearing the board screen by screen. The main objective is to remove all the tiles by finding identical pairs, but they can only be selected if they are free on at least one side. The signature mechanics involve studying the layered tile layouts for open matches and planning several moves ahead to avoid getting stuck. The pacing is methodical, almost meditative, and the difficulty comes from the increasingly complex tile arrangements that demand careful attention. It feels like untangling a very pleasant, pastel-colored knot.
