SD Hiryuu no Ken EX is one of those Game Boy Color fighters that somehow feels bigger than it should. The characters are these tiny, super-deformed versions of the Hiryuu no Ken cast, but they throw down with ridiculous energy—like watching action figures come to life and start roundhouse kicking each other.
At first, I thought it’d be too simple, but there’s actually some real strategy here. Each fighter has their own weird little quirks—like one guy’s uppercut that takes forever to recover from, or another who can just spam projectiles if you’re not careful. The versus mode is where it shines, especially if you’ve got a friend who doesn’t mind getting elbowed in the ribs over pixelated bragging rights.
It’s not the deepest fighter out there, but the animations have so much charm, and the controls just work. Perfect for short bursts when you want something punchy and loud in the best way. Still holds up if you dig that late-90s handheld brawl vibe.
