I picked up SD Sengokuden on the Game Boy back in 1991, a little strategy game from Bandai that came out during that era when developers were really starting to push what the handheld could do. It wasn't a big name like some of the Nintendo titles, but it had a certain charm, fitting right in with the other experimental and often quirky games of the time.

You control a small army of super-deformed samurai generals on a grid-based map, moving them one space at a time to engage enemy units. The main goal is to defeat all opposing forces on each stage, which usually means taking out the enemy commander. Key mechanics include careful unit positioning to exploit terrain advantages and using each general's unique weapon, like spears for longer reach or swords for close combat.
