Tiny samurai clash on a grid—position them just right or watch Nobunaga’s cavalry stomp your cute little army. Simple, brutal, and way deeper than those chibi sprites let on.

Game Overview

SD Sengokuden is one of those Game Boy games that sneaks up on you—what starts as a quick "let’s see what this is" session turns into an hour of moving tiny samurai around a grid, trying not to get wrecked by Oda Nobunaga’s absurdly overpowered cavalry. The chibi art style makes everything feel lighthearted, but don’t be fooled—those little guys hit hard.

I love how it simplifies the usual strategy game bloat. No endless menus or diplomacy; just pick a faction, position your units, and watch the chaos unfold. The AI’s surprisingly clever too—leave a weak flank exposed, and you’ll get swarmed by grinning, oversized helmets. My first playthrough ended with a humiliating retreat because I underestimated a single spearman. Lesson learned.

If you’ve got a soft spot for retro tactics games with personality, this one’s a blast. Just maybe don’t challenge Date Masamune right away unless you enjoy pain.
