Shadow of the Beast II came out on the Sega Genesis in 1990, developed by Psygnosis. You control Aarbron, a beast-warrior on a mission to rescue his sister from the sorcerer Maletoth. The game plays out screen by screen, with exploration through forests, caves, and dungeons. Combat is a mix of melee attacks with your claws and using a bow for ranged enemies; you also collect keys and solve simple puzzles to progress. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is punishing, with limited health and frequent instant-death traps. Playing it feels like a tense, methodical struggle where every small advance requires careful attention and quick reflexes.
