Play Shanghai - Banri no Choujou (Japan) Online

You match mahjong tiles against the clock, watching chunks of the Great Wall collapse when you clear sections—until the AI opponent starts pulling impossible moves in versus mode. Those chunky pixel tiles and chill music make it weirdly addictive.

Game Overview

Shanghai - Banri no Choujou is one of those weird little SNES gems that never made it West—unless you count the 3DO/Saturn version Activision localized as "Shanghai: Triple-Threat." It's basically mahjong solitaire, but with way more personality than you'd expect. The tiles have this nice chunky pixel art, and the background music is weirdly relaxing for a game about matching pairs before time runs out.

What makes it stand out? The "Great Wall" mode (that's what Banri no Choujou means) where you're dismantling this massive tile structure layer by layer. Feels oddly satisfying when you clear a whole section and watch it crumble. Also, the CPU opponents in versus mode are brutal—I swear the AI cheats sometimes.

If you're into puzzle games with a retro vibe, this one's got charm to spare. Just don't blame me when you get stuck trying to find that last matching pair for half an hour.
