Shien's Revenge came out for the Super Nintendo in 1994, published by Vic Tokai. It was part of that wave of action games that tried to do something a little different with the hardware, focusing on a fixed-path perspective rather than free roaming. You control a lone ninja moving automatically through enemy territory. Your main goal is to survive each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. You use a sword for close attacks and can throw shuriken at a distance; timing your blocks is crucial because enemies attack from all sides. The game moves quickly and the difficulty is relentless, especially when dealing with multiple projectiles and sudden ambushes. It feels tense and demanding, like a constant test of your reflexes.
