Play Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Online
Tokyo’s locked down, demons are everywhere, and you’ve got seven days to survive—negotiate with monsters mid-battle, exploit their weaknesses, and pray your squad doesn’t crack under pressure.

I picked up Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor on the Nintendo DS back in 2009, a time when the handheld was full of deep, experimental RPGs. Atlus, the developer, had a reputation for these dense, atmospheric games, and this one fit right in. It wasn't trying to be the biggest or flashiest release; it was just a solid, thoughtful strategy RPG that demanded your attention.
You control a small group of survivors navigating a quarantined Tokyo, moving your units on a grid-based map for tactical, turn-based fights. Your main goal is simply to last the week, making choices that affect which allies live or die and which story path you unlock. Key mechanics include recruiting demons through conversation, fusing them to create stronger allies, and exploiting elemental weaknesses to gain extra turns. The pacing is deliberate, and the difficulty is unapologetic, often requiring careful planning and multiple attempts on tougher battles. It feels like a constant, tense puzzle where every decision carries weight.
