Silva Saga II is one of those SNES RPGs that flew under the radar but has this weirdly satisfying old-school charm. You wake up with no memory (classic RPG move) and get thrown into a war against the Darkness God Zuni—while also hunting down a missing prince and untangling your own past. The story’s got that ‘90s anime fantasy vibe, complete with dramatic sibling rivalries and ancient evils.

What I like is how they streamlined things from the first game. The menus are less clunky, battles are fully turn-based, and you’ve got options: roll with your story companions, hire mercenaries who just swing swords all day, or summon these fragile but powerful spellcaster idols. The mercs and idols fight on their own, which sounds chaotic but actually works—sometimes they’ll surprise you by pulling off a clutch heal or nuking an enemy at the right moment.

It’s not the deepest RPG out there, but there’s something cozy about the pacing. You’ll spend a lot of time grinding in forests and caves, swapping party setups to see what clicks. Just don’t get too attached to those idols—they hit hard but fold like paper.
