SimCity Creator on the Nintendo DS came out in 2008, developed by SQUiRE. It was part of that wave of DS games that really tried to use the touchscreen for something more than just menus, letting you build a city with a stylus right in your hand. You play as the mayor, controlling everything from zoning land to managing the city's budget. The main goal is to grow a thriving city from a small town, balancing residential, commercial, and industrial needs. Signature mechanics include drawing roads and zoning areas directly on the touchscreen, dealing with random disasters like tornadoes or monster attacks, and constantly monitoring your finances to avoid going bankrupt. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, as you wait for tax revenue to come in or for new buildings to develop; it's not a rushed experience. It feels satisfying to watch a city you built from scratch finally become stable and start to grow on its own.
