Skiing came out for the Atari 2600 in 1980, published by Atari themselves. It was one of those early sports titles that tried to capture a real activity with the limited graphics and sound of the time. You knew what you were getting: a simple, focused experience built around a single idea.

You control a small blocky skier making your way down a slalom course. The main goal is to pass through gates while avoiding trees and other obstacles. You move left and right with the joystick, building speed as you descend; tapping the button makes you jump, which helps clear rocks or rough patches. The pacing is quick, and the controls are sensitive, so a slight miscalculation sends you into a tree or off course. It feels tense and rewarding when you thread through a tight series of gates without wiping out.
