Skuljagger - Revolt of the Westicans (Beta) is one of those weird, wonderful SNES games that somehow never got its moment in the sun. You play as a skeleton pirate—yes, really—leading a ragtag crew of bony outlaws against… well, whoever’s dumb enough to get in their way.
The first thing you’ll notice is how good it looks—sprites pop with this grungy, cartoony style, like someone mashed up a pirate comic with a Tim Burton sketchbook. And the controls? Surprisingly tight for a beta. You’ll be wall-jumping between crumbling forts and chucking cutlasses at enemies who probably deserved it.
It’s got that classic ‘90s platformer challenge, too. One minute you’re laughing at a skeleton yelling pirate insults, the next you’re cursing because you missed a jump for the tenth time. The music’s all jaunty sea shanties turned into chiptune bangers, which somehow makes the whole thing even weirder.
Honestly, it’s a shame this never got a full release. If you’re into retro games with personality (and let’s be real, skeletons), this beta’s worth digging up.
