Snake Rattle n Roll came out on the NES in 1991, developed by Rare. It was a time when developers were really pushing the hardware, trying out new perspectives and ideas, and this game definitely stood out with its isometric view and quirky concept.
You control one of two snakes, Rattle or Roll, and your goal is to eat enough Nibbley Pibbleys to weigh down a scale, which then opens a door to the next stage. The main mechanics involve slithering around these 3D-like levels, avoiding enemies like bouncing eyeballs and giant feet, and using your tail to knock out foes. The pacing is fast and a bit unforgiving; you have to be precise with your jumps and constantly aware of hazards, from falling off edges to getting squashed. It feels like a frantic, silly race against the clock and your own slippery controls.
