Game Overview

Snow Bros. Disk 1 came out for the Amiga in 1994, a conversion of the earlier arcade game developed by Toaplan and published by Renegade. It arrived at a time when the Amiga was still a strong platform for colorful, accessible arcade ports, though it didn't always get the same attention as some other systems. The game is a straightforward, screen based platformer where you control one of two snowmen, Nick or Tom, on a mission to rescue princesses from a potion brewing villain.

You move through each level, shooting snow at enemies to completely cover them, turning them into large snowballs. You then push these snowballs across the platform; if they hit another enemy or a wall, they shatter and clear everything in their path. The main goal is simply to eliminate every enemy on the screen to open the exit door. Key mechanics include collecting power up drinks that temporarily change your attack, like firing faster or throwing fireballs, and facing a unique boss at the end of every tenth level. The pacing is quick and the difficulty is fair, though it can get hectic in two player co op. It feels cheerful and satisfying to clean a screen by rolling a giant snowball through a crowd of monsters.
