The first time I played, I got swarmed by about twenty Romans in the opening minutes—turns out, shield bashing them off cliffs never gets old.
You’ve got spears, swords, even a bow if you’re feeling sneaky, but most of the time you’ll just wade into crowds, hacking away like a one-man war machine. The combat’s simple but satisfying—heavy attacks send enemies flying, and there’s something weirdly therapeutic about mowing down waves of soldiers while Greek chants blast in the background. Just don’t get too cocky—those archers on the rooftops are absolute trolls.
It’s not exactly deep, but if you want big, dumb, spectacle-heavy battles where you feel like an unstoppable demigod, this GameCube hidden gem still holds up. Just maybe stretch your thumbs first.
