Spectral Force Genesis came out on the Nintendo DS in 2008, developed by Idea Factory. It was part of that wave of mid-2000s handheld games where developers tried to fit surprisingly deep strategy experiences onto the dual screens. You don't see many titles like it on the platform, which was usually dominated by RPGs and lighter fare.

You control a fledgling monarch trying to unite the continent of Neverland. The core loop involves managing your kingdom's resources, recruiting and moving generals with their individual units across a world map, and engaging in turn-based tactical battles. You spend a lot of time balancing your treasury for unit upkeep and construction projects while also negotiating fragile alliances with other factions. The pacing is deliberate, almost methodical, as you carefully position your forces before committing to a fight. It feels like you are constantly juggling a dozen problems at once, hoping your next decision doesn't unravel everything you've built.
