Play Spelunker Online
NES classic where you explore caves for treasure, but beware—tiny falls kill you, ghosts sneak up, and the controls demand precision. Dynamite helps, but it's brutal.

Spelunker came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Tim Martin and published by Broderbund. It was one of those early NES titles that felt like a direct, sometimes unforgiving, port from the arcade or home computer scene, offering a very specific kind of challenge that was common for the time.
You control an explorer who must navigate a massive, multi-level cave system screen by screen, descending on ropes and elevators to collect treasure and find the exit. Your main goal is simply to survive the descent, which is complicated by a few signature mechanics: even the smallest drop will kill you, requiring careful use of ropes and ladders, and you have a limited supply of flares to illuminate dark passages and dynamite to clear rockfalls. The pacing is slow and deliberate because every action carries risk; a misplaced jump or a mistimed rope swing means instant death. Playing it feels like a constant, tense negotiation with the environment itself.
