I picked up Spider-Man: Friend or Foe on the PSP back in 2007, a portable beat-em-up from Next Level Games and Activision. It came out when handhelds were really hitting their stride, offering console-like action you could take anywhere. The game doesn’t try to be a big cinematic adventure; it’s straightforward, colorful, and built for quick sessions.

You control Spider-Man, punching and webbing through waves of enemies across various locations. The main goal is to stop a symbiote invasion by clearing stages, defeating bosses, and then recruiting those same villains to fight alongside you. Key mechanics include switching between characters on the fly to use their unique abilities, like Venom’s heavy attacks or Black Cat’s agility, and playing two-player co-op where a friend can jump in as your partner. The pacing is brisk, the difficulty is forgiving, and it just feels like a lighthearted, chaotic comic book brought to life.
