Play Stack-Up Online
Control R.O.B. with physical discs in this quirky NES game — stack fast, program blind sequences, or sabotage friends in chaotic Bingo mode.

Stack-Up came out for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1985, developed by Nintendo R&D1. It was one of those early titles that tried to bridge the gap between the console and a physical accessory, in this case the Robotic Operating Buddy. You didn't just play it with a controller; you needed to set up the robot on your floor and hand it the actual game pieces.
You control R.O.B. by inputting commands that tell it to pick up or drop colored discs. The main goal is to get it to stack these discs in a specific order on its stand, which sounds simple but gets complicated fast. The challenge comes from programming a sequence of moves while a timer counts down, and then watching, helplessly, as the slow, mechanical robot attempts to execute your plan. It's a strange mix of puzzle solving and physical comedy, especially when a disc gets dropped or the whole stack tumbles. Playing it feels like a patient, slightly clumsy dance with a machine that has a mind of its own.
