Play Star Trek : 25th Anniversary on GB Online
Weird little Game Boy gem where you blast Klingons in a side-scrolling shooter one minute, then scramble around planets as Kirk solving puzzles the next—all to stop a planet-eating machine. Controls show their age, but the whiplash between styles keeps it interesting.

Interplay released Star Trek: 25th Anniversary for the Game Boy in 1992. It was a time when licensed games often tried to cram a whole universe into a tiny cartridge, and this one was no different. You got a side-scrolling shooter and a top-down adventure all in one package, which felt ambitious for the hardware.
You control Captain Kirk, switching between two distinct modes. In space, you pilot the Enterprise in horizontal shooter segments, firing phasers and photon torpedoes at Klingon Birds-of-Prey. On planets, the view shifts to an overhead perspective where you guide Kirk to explore environments, talk to aliens, and find key items to solve logic puzzles. The main goal is to investigate a series of attacks and ultimately stop a destructive machine. The pacing is uneven, with the adventure sections sometimes slowing to a crawl, and the space combat can be brutally difficult due to stiff controls. It feels like a strange, earnest attempt to translate the spirit of the show into a game that was probably too big for its own good.
