Play Star Trek - 25th Anniversary Online
Explore alien worlds, manage the Enterprise, and solve puzzles while leading Kirk, Spock, and McCoy in Star Trek - 25th Anniversary on NES.
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary on the NES, released by Interplay in 1992, was a bold attempt to translate a complex sci-fi property into the limited framework of an 8-bit console. It arrived late in the system's life, a time when many developers were pushing the hardware to its absolute limits with deeper, more intricate games. This one tried to capture the spirit of the original series by blending two distinct styles of play into a single package.
You control the entire crew of the Enterprise, switching between managing the ship from the bridge and leading landing parties on away missions. The main objective is to complete a series of standalone episodes, each requiring you to solve spatial puzzles in ship combat and navigate environmental logic problems on alien worlds. Signature mechanics include the turn based, strategic phaser and photon torpedo battles against Klingon vessels, and the screen by screen exploration of planets where you direct Kirk, Spock, and McCoy to use their unique items and skills on specific objects. The pacing is deliberate, often slow, and the difficulty can be unforgiving due to some obtuse puzzle solutions. It feels like piecing together a low resolution episode of the show, where success depends on your patience and careful observation.
