Dodging turbolasers in the Death Star trench with that iconic score blaring—this is the closest you’ll get to flying an X-Wing without joining the Rebellion. The B-Wing lumbers, the Snowspeeder’s tow cable never gets easier, and Wedge actually sounds like Wedge.
Game Overview
If you ever wanted to feel like you're actually flying an X-Wing in the original Star Wars trilogy, Rogue Leader on GameCube nails it. The moment you take off in that first Death Star trench run, dodging turbolaser fire with John Williams' score blasting, it just feels right—like someone finally got a Star Wars flight game exactly how you imagined it as a kid.
You play as Luke or Wedge (with the actual movie actor voicing Wedge, which is a nice touch) across missions ripped straight from the films—Hoth, Endor, even that crazy asteroid field chase. Some levels are original too, but they blend in so well you’ll forget they weren’t in the movies. The B-Wing handles like a tank, the Snowspeeder’s tow cable mechanic is still stressful, and yeah, you’ll probably crash into the Death Star’s surface a few times before getting the timing right.
What keeps it interesting is the medal system—finishing a mission fast or with crazy accuracy unlocks bonus ships and secret missions. I spent way too long trying to gold-medal the Hoth level just to fly the Millennium Falcon. And if you’re into behind-the-scenes stuff, there’s a whole DVD-style extras section with developer commentary. Still one of the best Star Wars games out there, even after all these years.
