Game Overview

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on N64 is basically the closest you could get to being an X-Wing pilot in the late '90s. You start off blasting TIE Fighters over Mos Eisley, and within minutes you're dodging turbolaser fire while the classic John Williams score kicks in. The controls take a second to click—rolling with the C buttons feels weird at first—but once you get the hang of it, weaving through canyons or pulling off a tight bombing run on an Imperial outpost just feels right.

Some missions throw curveballs, like suddenly having to defend a base from waves of enemies, and the A-Wing handles way differently than the sluggish Y-Wing. The pixelated explosions haven’t aged perfectly, but hearing that iconic blaster sound effect never gets old. If you ever dreamed of dogfighting over Sullust as a kid, this still holds up.
