Starflight came out for the Sega Genesis in 1991, developed by Binary Systems. It was one of those ambitious space exploration games that really pushed what the system could handle, offering a huge galaxy to explore at a time when many games were still pretty linear. You got a real sense of scale from it, something not many other titles on the platform attempted with quite the same depth.

You command a starship and its crew, exploring randomly generated star systems, landing on planets to gather resources, and making contact with alien species. The main goal is to uncover the mystery behind a series of galactic catastrophes, which involves careful exploration, resource management, and tactical space combat. You spend a lot of time scanning planets for minerals, negotiating with aliens (or fighting them), and always watching your fuel and life support levels. The pacing is deliberate, sometimes slow, and the difficulty is unforgiving if you venture unprepared into unknown space. It feels like balancing on the edge of survival, where every new jump could lead to discovery or disaster.
