Game Overview

Starflight 2: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula came out in 1989 for MS-DOS, published by Electronic Arts. It was part of that wave of ambitious space exploration games that really pushed what you could do on a home computer back then, with its sprawling universe and open-ended design.

You command a starship and its crew, exploring star systems, mining planets for minerals, and trading goods to earn credits. Your main goal is to uncover the mystery behind the Cloud Nebula while managing fuel, hull integrity, and crew morale. Key mechanics include landing on planets with a surface rover to gather resources, engaging in tactical ship combat, and negotiating with alien races. The pacing is deliberate, even slow at times, and the difficulty can be punishing if you venture unprepared into hostile space. It feels like charting your own path through a vast, indifferent galaxy where every jump could lead to discovery or disaster.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
