Cloud Master came out for the Sega Master System in 1989, published by Taito. It was one of those side-scrolling shooters that felt right at home on the system, offering a straightforward but engaging alternative to some of the more complex titles of the time.
You control a small character riding a cloud, moving horizontally across the screen while shooting energy balls at an assortment of enemies. The main goal is to clear each stage and defeat the boss waiting at the end. Between levels, you can upgrade your weapon by choosing from different power-ups, which adds a bit of strategy to the usual shooting. The pacing is brisk, and the difficulty ramps up steadily, especially when facing screen-filling bosses like armed bears or giant, angry noodle bowls. The controls have a deliberate, floaty feel that takes some getting used to, but once it clicks, navigating through the chaos becomes surprisingly satisfying.
