Starship Hector came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, developed by Hudson Soft. It was part of that wave of shooters that tried to do more than just scroll from left to right, offering a mix of perspectives to keep things interesting.
You pilot a ship through alien territory, clearing each screen of enemies before moving on. The main objective is survival, navigating through waves of foes that attack from all directions. The game constantly shifts between top-down and side-scrolling views, forcing you to adapt your tactics on the fly. You collect power-ups for two main weapons, a standard shot and a more powerful but limited-use special weapon. The pacing is relentless, and the difficulty is unforgiving, with enemy patterns that demand precise movement. It feels like a constant test of your reflexes and spatial awareness.
