Game Overview

I first played Command Adventures: Starship back in the mid-90s, after picking it up from a bargain bin. It was a 1993 release from Merit Studios, Inc., part of the MS-DOS Classic Games series. At the time, space sims and management games were everywhere, but this one had a specific, hands-on feel that stood out. It didn't try to be the flashiest game on the block; it just dropped you into a detailed, demanding universe and expected you to cope.

You take command of a starship, managing everything from life support and engine power to weapons and crew morale. Your main goal is to survive, complete missions, and sometimes just make it to the next star system without going bankrupt or getting blown to bits. The game plays out screen by screen, with a top-down view of your ship's systems; you allocate power, direct repairs, and negotiate with traders or enemies through text menus. Combat is tense and methodical, requiring quick shifts between shields, weapons, and evasive maneuvers. It's not a fast game—you'll spend a lot of time paused, thinking through each move—but that deliberate pace makes every success feel earned. Playing it feels like being responsible for every creak and groan of a ship that's always on the verge of falling apart.

Each game uses different controls, most DOS games use the keyboard arrows. Some will use the mouse , "Alt" ,"Enter" and "Space bar".
